Every Thursday on The Weekend POURcast we mix up a fresh batch of movie picks hitting theaters and streaming, and pair them with cocktail suggestions that match the vibe. Whether you’re heading out to the big screen or settling in with a shaker and a screen at home, we’re here to help you make your weekend movie night feel like an event. Let’s dive in.

On the Last Weekend POURcast…

Last weekend saw Freakier Friday still swapping bodies and getting a few laughs, while Weapons held the number one spot overall, drawing both screams and praise for its smart slow-burn horror tension. Final Destination: Bloodlines continued climbing the streaming charts, and a few indie flicks like My Mother’s Wedding and The Occupant found their audiences. All in all, a solid weekend of genre variety, emotional range, and killer cocktail pairings.

🍸🍿 What’s New in Theaters (Aug 15–17)

Nobody 2

He’s back, and he still doesn’t care about your expectations. Bob Odenkirk returns as Hutch in this hyper-violent sequel that’s one part family vacation, one part body-count montage. With Sharon Stone and Colin Hanks joining the mix, Nobody 2 looks to punch August right in the throat, with class. Fans of John Wick-style mayhem, this one’s your top shelf pour. If it’s anything like the last one, we’re in! (and it will be our Tuesday Nigh Movie Club)

Highest 2 Lowest

Spike Lee. Denzel Washington. Jeffrey Wright. A$AP Rocky. That’s not a guest list, it’s the cast. This gritty, stylish crime drama dives into a tense kidnapping scenario in the music world, promising social commentary, mood, and moral murkiness. This is your “Negroni with a twist of guilt” weekend movie.

Witchboard

An antique talking board in New Orleans awakens a demonic force, because apparently we still haven’t learned to stop summoning spirits from flea market curios… Witchboard leans hard into occult atmosphere and Louisiana vibes. Best served with something smoky and haunted.

Americana

Sydney Sweeney, Paul Walter Hauser, Halsey, and Eric Dane anchor this crime-comedy with a satirical streak. Think Coen Brothers meets Bottle Rocket, with an artifact everyone wants, and probably shouldn’t have. It’s weird. It’s sharp. It’s got a big swing energy. Worth a shot (and maybe a chaser).

Jimmy and Stiggs

A struggling filmmaker swears aliens abducted him – and now he’s going full vengeance arc with his very confused best friend. This one’s for fans of chaotic sci-fi horror, Joe Begos bloodsplatter, and indie films that ask, “Wait…what?” Perfect for a strong, bitter drink you pretend to like at a film festival.

Also Opening

  • East of Wall – Brooding family drama set on a ranch? Um, ok.

  • Went Up the Hill – Dacre Montgomery finds terror on the trail in this surreal Aussie horror-fantasy.

🛋️ New Movies on Streaming

If you’re staying in this weekend – either to escape the heat or the lines – here’s what just dropped on major streaming platforms:

Netflix

  • Night Always Comes – A dark drama where desperation drives the story. Released August 15, and perfect for your moody-night-in playlist.

HBO Max

  • The Legend of Ochi – A fantasy epic with stunning visuals and mythical worldbuilding. Drop some bitters in your favorite whiskey and dig in.

  • Freaky Tales – Released last week, this stylish anthology film is still buzz-worthy. Multiple timelines, multiple tones, one very cool vibe.

Amazon Prime Video

  • The Pickup – A heist comedy with Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson? Say less. Streaming now and best paired with something light, fast, and a little unhinged.

🎬 No notable new movies on Disney+, Hulu, or Apple TV+ this week. Most of what’s new is series-based (and we promised to leave those out unless there are lightsabers or xenomorphs involved).
