Alabama Ash Cocktail

With a split base, it's stirred, sweet devotion with smoke notes at the edges. Not too hard to make and easy to enjoy while watching a dangerous romantic action movie with that special "friend."

Equipment

  • Mixing glass
  • Bar Spoon
  • Jigger
  • Strainer
  • Rocks glass
  • One big ice cube

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce Bourbon
  • 1 ounce Mezcal (espadin is perfect)
  • 1/2 ounce Sweet Vermouth
  • 1/4 ounce Maple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Expressed orange peel for garnish (or luxardo cherry)

Instructions

  • Add bourbon, mezcal, sweet vermouth, maple syrup, and bitters to a mixing glass with ice.
  • Stir 20–25 seconds until chilled and unified.
  • Strain over a big cube in a rocks glass.
  • Express orange peel over the drink and drop it in.

Notes

Why it works

Bourbon is the romance. Mezcal is the gun under the table. Sweet vermouth makes it noir-smooth, and a touch of maple gives a dark sweetness that plays beautifully with smoke. It’s bold, adult, and absolutely has swagger.
