Notes
Why It Works
This is a slightly tamer take on the tiki-style Zombie, making it approachable at home without losing the tropical mayhem. The dual rums bring layered complexity, the pineapple and lime juice create a bright, juicy punch, and the falernum or orgeat delivers that island sweetness with subtle spice. Grenadine adds blood-red drama and balance, and Angostura bitters wrap it all in a warm, spiced finish. The optional float adds showmanship (and kick) without needing to light anything on fire… unless you want to. It's exactly the kind of cocktail Ed would hand Shaun while trying to cheer him up in the middle of an undead siege. Comforting, fun, and just a little reckless.
Movie Pairing
Pair with:
Shaun of the Dead
This drink doesn’t just nod to the apocalypse, it dances through it in a Hawaiian shirt. Bold, funny, and tropical enough to forget the zombified mess outside, it’s the perfect pour for a horror-comedy classic. Sip it while arguing over which records are safe to throw, or toast to Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now mid-battle.
Pro Tips & Variations
-
No falernum or orgeat? Sub with ¼ oz honey syrup or skip it entirely.
-
Make it spicy: Add a thin slice of fresh ginger or a dash of chili tincture to the shaker.
-
Batch it: Multiply ingredients (minus the float) into a pitcher for 4. Shake individual portions with ice and serve.
-
Mocktail version coming soon – because even zombies deserve a zero-proof option.
