The Blustery Breakwater Mocktail

A warm, storm-day mocktail with ginger heat, citrus bite, and “I’m staying in” comfort.

Equipment

  • Small saucepans or microwave safe mug
  • Mug
  • Measuring jigger
  • Spoon
  • Zester

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces Apple Cider (or apple juice in a pinch)
  • 1 ounce Fresh lemon juice (about 1/2 lemon)
  • 1-2 teaspoon Honey or maple syrup
  • 1/8 teaspoon Ground cinnamon or cinnamon stick if you have it
  • pinch Sea salt seriously adds some flavor
  • 3-4 ounces Ginger beer giner ale if you want a gentler version
  • Lemon wheel, apple slice or orange peel garnish

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan (or mug), heat the apple cider until steaming-hot but not boiling.
  • Stir in lemon juice, honey/maple (if using), cinnamon, and a tiny pinch of salt.
  • Pour into your mug if you used a saucepan.
  • Top with ginger beer after heating (important - you want the bite and a little fizz, not flat sadness).
  • Garnish with a lemon wheel or apple slice if you’re feeling civilized.

Notes

Why It Works

Hot cider brings the comfort and body, lemon keeps it bright and clean, and ginger beer adds that spicy “brace yourself” kick that matches winter weather perfectly. The cinnamon gives you warmth without turning it into dessert, and the pinch of salt quietly makes everything taste more layered - like you meant to do this on purpose.
