Red Herring Getaway Mocktail

It’s refreshing enough for a hot day, but dramatic enough for a movie night built around suspicion and false identities.

Equipment

  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Citrus juicer
  • Rocks glass or highball glass
  • Bar spoon or regular spoon
  • Ice

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Strong black tea
  • 2 ounces Pineapple juice
  • 3/4 ounce Fresh Lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce Orange juice
  • 1/2 ounce Grenadine
  • Ginger beer to top
  • Ice
  • Lime wheel or pineapple wedge for garnish

Instructions

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add the dark rum, pineapple juice, lime juice, and orange juice.
  • Shake for 10–12 seconds, until chilled.
  • Strain into a rocks glass or highball glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Top with ginger beer.
  • Slowly pour the grenadine over the back of a spoon so it sinks through the drink and settles near the bottom.

Notes

Why It Works With A Perfect Getaway

A Perfect Getaway is a thriller built on misdirection. It gives you exactly the movie you think you’re watching — right up until it decides to be something nastier and smarter. The mocktail works the same way. At first glance, it’s a breezy island drink. Pineapple. Citrus. Rum. Ginger beer. Nothing alarming.
Then the red starts sinking.
That’s the fun of this pairing. The mocktail looks like a beach vacation but carries a little murder-mystery energy at the bottom of the glass. It’s refreshing enough for a hot day, but dramatic enough for a movie night built around suspicion, false identities, and Timothy Olyphant somehow making paranoia look charismatic.
