Red Herring Getaway Mocktail
It’s refreshing enough for a hot day, but dramatic enough for a movie night built around suspicion and false identities.
Cocktail shaker or mason jar with lid
Jigger or measuring cup
Citrus juicer
Rocks glass or highball glass
Bar spoon or regular spoon
Ice
- 2 ounces Strong black tea
- 2 ounces Pineapple juice
- 3/4 ounce Fresh Lime juice
- 1/2 ounce Orange juice
- 1/2 ounce Grenadine
- Ginger beer to top
- Ice
- Lime wheel or pineapple wedge for garnish
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Add the dark rum, pineapple juice, lime juice, and orange juice.
Shake for 10–12 seconds, until chilled.
Strain into a rocks glass or highball glass filled with fresh ice.
Top with ginger beer.
Slowly pour the grenadine over the back of a spoon so it sinks through the drink and settles near the bottom.
Garnish with a lime wheel or pineapple wedge.
Why It Works With A Perfect Getaway
A Perfect Getaway is a thriller built on misdirection. It gives you exactly the movie you think you’re watching — right up until it decides to be something nastier and smarter. The mocktail works the same way. At first glance, it’s a breezy island drink. Pineapple. Citrus. Rum. Ginger beer. Nothing alarming.
Then the red starts sinking.
That’s the fun of this pairing. The mocktail looks like a beach vacation but carries a little murder-mystery energy at the bottom of the glass. It’s refreshing enough for a hot day, but dramatic enough for a movie night built around suspicion, false identities, and Timothy Olyphant somehow making paranoia look charismatic.
