Notes

Why It Works

This drink captures the illusion of safety before the dread sets in.
The gin lays down crisp botanical notes, the apple cider adds orchard warmth, and the honey syrup softens the lemon’s bite for a balanced, autumnal fizz. The result is clean, effervescent, and a little mysterious, like wandering into the forest thinking it’s just a hike, not a horror. Every sip is a breath of cold night air and falling leaves, with the faintest echo of something unseen.

Movie Pairing

Pair with: The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Found footage, rising panic, and the woods closing in, this cocktail’s hazy gold glow mirrors a flashlight beam in the dark. It’s deceptively refreshing, the perfect false comfort before everything goes wrong. Drink it while you rewatch and remember: never follow the trail markers.

Pro Tips & Variations

  • Smokier twist: Add ¼ oz of Lapsang Souchong tea or a barspoon of peated Scotch to the shaker.

  • Sweeter version: Sub the honey syrup for maple syrup.

  • Zero-proof riff: Use NA gin or steeped rosemary tea as the base, same woods, less witch.

  • Batching: Multiply ingredients (except soda) by 4; shake each portion fresh before topping with fizz.
