Every weekend, we here at Cocktails and Movies serve up the Weekend POURcast: a quick-hit look at what’s new in theaters, what might matter at the box office, what’s worth checking out on streaming, and what cocktail should be in your hand while you sort through the options. Think of it as your moviegoing cheat sheet for the weekend, with a little booze, a little box office, and just enough side-eye to keep it honest.
This weekend feels like a classic holdover-versus-fresh-blood frame. Last weekend, The Super Mario Galaxy Movieexploded out of the gate with $131.7 million, while Project Hail Mary held strong in second with $31.7 million and The Drama opened to $14.4 million.
Now the question is whether any of this weekend’s newcomers can actually dent that momentum. The new wide titles include You, Me & Tuscany, Hunting Matthew Nichols, and Faces of Death, with specialty and limited releases like Bunnylovr, Hamlet, Exit 8, and The Yeti also entering the mix.
Last Weekend in Review
Last weekend was basically a reminder that when a giant family title shows up with enough recognition and enough sugar-rush energy, the rest of the market gets pushed to the side. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie launched with $131.7 million over the weekend and $190.8 million total domestic so far, while Project Hail Mary added another $31.7 million in its third frame. The Drama landed in third with $14.4 million.
That gives this weekend a slightly odd shape. The top of the chart is already spoken for unless something truly weird happens. So the more interesting fight is lower down, where the new releases are trying to carve out distinct lanes: romance, found-footage horror, straight horror, and a bunch of limited titles for people who like their moviegoing a little less obvious.
New in Theaters This Weekend
You, Me & Tuscany
This is the cleanest mainstream play among the weekend’s new releases. It’s a wide release from Universal, starring Regé-Jean Page and Halle Bailey, and built as a comedy-romance. Its premise centers on a woman posing as the owner’s fiancée at an Italian villa and stumbling into an unexpected romance, which is exactly the sort of glossy, escapist nonsense a spring weekend can use.
Faces of Death
Also opening wide, Faces of Death comes in as the more obvious horror play. The cast includes Barbie Ferreira, Dacre Montgomery, Charli XCX, and Josie Totah. The title is already doing a lot of the work here, which honestly is not a bad strategy in horror. If the movie delivers even half the grindhouse chaos the name promises, it could become the weekend’s nastier little counterprogramming option.
Hunting Matthew Nichols
Hunting Matthew Nichols is also opening wide and comes in tagged as a horror-mystery-thriller. That gives the weekend a second genre option for audiences who want suspense but do not necessarily want the more overt branding of Faces of Death. This feels like the wildcard that could either sneak into the conversation or vanish if horror audiences consolidate behind the louder title.
Bunnylovr
On the specialty side, Bunnylovr opens in limited release. It is a drama about a cam girl navigating a toxic client relationship while reconnecting with her estranged, dying father. That is a very different flavor from the wider titles this weekend and gives adult audiences looking for something rawer and more intimate an actual option.
Other Notables
If you want the art-house and side-door options, this weekend has a few. Hamlet, Exit 8, The Yeti, The Christophers, PH-1, Steal This Story, Please!, and ChaO are all among the April 10 additions, mostly in limited release. That is a pretty healthy bench for a weekend that, on the wide-release side, is otherwise trying to make rom-coms and horror do the heavy lifting.
Box Office Forecast: April 10th-12th, 2026
1. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
$52M to $68M
It opened huge and still has family gravity on its side. Even with new titles entering the market, it would take a full collapse for this thing not to repeat at number one.
2. Project Hail Mary
$16M to $22M
It dropped 41.3% last weekend and still pulled $31.7 million, which is a healthy hold for a movie already three weekends in. Mario may dominate families, but Project Hail Mary still owns the grown-up event lane.
3. You, Me & Tuscany
$9M to $14M
Of the new titles, this feels like the most commercially legible. Wide release, attractive leads, romantic-comedy hook, Italy, sunlight, pretty people pretending their problems are charming. That has a real audience.
4. The Drama
$7M to $10M
A24’s The Drama opened to $14.4 million last weekend. If it holds reasonably well, it should stay in the upper part of the chart, though You, Me & Tuscany could absolutely jump ahead of it.
5. Faces of Death or Hoppers
$5M to $8M
This is the messiest slot on the board. Faces of Death has the advantage of being new and wide. Hoppers has the advantage of already being established and still hanging around. If horror audiences show up hard, Faces of Deathprobably takes it. If not, Hoppers may keep quietly cashing checks.
New Movies on Streaming This Weekend
If you are staying home, the newest-at-home lineup is pretty packed this week. The fresh arrivals include Outcome, Thrash, The Yeti, Heads or Tails?, Dreams, Infiltrate, Painted Sharks, Pain & Harmony, That One Summer, and The Caretaker.
A few stand out immediately. Heads or Tails? has the strongest critical response of the new group, while Outcome and The Yeti look more like gamble picks depending on your tolerance for uneven reviews. Just behind the April 10 arrivals, recent streaming additions include Touch Me, The President’s Cake, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, and All You Need Is Kill, which gives couch-watchers a pretty solid bench if the theatrical menu feels too narrow.
So yes, the couch has options again. Maybe too many. Which is usually better than the alternative.
Weekend Drink Pairing: Italian Mutation Cocktail
This weekend’s cocktail pick is the Italian Mutation Cocktail, which is already live on CocktailsandMovies.com and described as “a sunlit Italian aperitivo that slowly mutates into something darker, herbal, and irresistible.” That is almost annoyingly perfect for this frame.
Why this one? Because You, Me & Tuscany is the most obvious fresh studio play this weekend, and the Italian Mutation Cocktail gives you a built-in internal link while matching the spring-romance side of the lineup without feeling flimsy or forgettable. It sounds elegant enough for the Tuscan villa fantasy, but the “mutates into something darker” angle also lets it wink at the horror side of the weekend. That is useful range.
And, just as importantly, it is not last week’s cocktail. We are not running a cinematic groundhog day over here.

This weekend is less about a giant new box office knife fight and more about what survives in the shadow of the movies already holding the room. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie should stay on top, Project Hail Mary still looks sturdy, and the real test is whether You, Me & Tuscany can break out as counterprogramming or whether horror claims the attention instead with Faces of Death or Hunting Matthew Nichols. Meanwhile, streaming is once again offering enough new material to make staying home feel like a real plan and not a backup plan.
