Welcome to the Weekend POURcast, your boozy guide to the box office.
Every Friday morning, we serve up what’s new in theaters and on streaming (movies only!), so you can get an idea of what’s playing. Whether you’re catching the latest flick on the big screen or mixing a drink for a night in, we’re here to help you turn your weekend watchlist into a cinematic experience. Let’s pour it up. 🍸🎬
Last Weekend in Review…
Last weekend, Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl dominated with a $33M debut, a stunning outcome for a limited theatrical event. Meanwhile, One Battle After Another held on in second place with about $11.1M in its second weekend. Other films like The Smashing Machine, Gabby’s Dollhouse, and The Conjuring: Last Rites also continued their runs, but the weekend was very much swept by the Swift event. Audiences reminded us: even in a crowded fall slate, surprise and spectacle still draw.
New in Theaters (Oct 10th – 12th)
Here’s what’s opening this Friday:
-
TRON: Ares
The next step in the Tron universe drops in as a sentient AI journeys from digital world to physical. Jared Leto leads, with Jeff Bridges returning in legacy mode. Disney is aiming high, with some forecasts targeting a $50M+ debut. -
Kiss of the Spider Woman
Jennifer Lopez stars in this adaptation of the musical/stage version about a political prisoner and a cellmate imagining freedom via fantasy. It’s theatrical release begins Oct 10. -
Soul On Fire, Urchin, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, A House of Dynamite
Also opening over the Oct 10th weekend -
Other Notables
Watch for limited or niche releases like Re‑Election.
New on Streaming / Movie‑Related Releases
No major new movie or franchise‑series drops surfaced in the research so far that clearly align with our “movies only” rule for Oct 10–12.
Box Office Prognostications (Oct 10th – 12th)
Here’s where I think (in my limited professional opinion and with one or two cocktails in me) things might land (Thursday preview through Sunday):
| Rank | Movie | Projected Weekend Gross |
|---|---|---|
| 1⃣ | TRON: Ares | $47M – strong opening with fan excitement + franchise draw |
| 2⃣ | Kiss of the Spider Woman | $9M – niche appeal, musical audience impact |
| 3⃣ | Soul On Fire / If I Had Legs I’d Kick You | $2M to $4M each will be likely modest, but could surprise in select markets |
| 4⃣ | A House of Dynamite / other limited releases | <$2M – mostly in specialty or urban circuits |
Final Pour
We’re entering a lean-into-fall stretch where visual spectacle (TRON: Ares), musical ambition (Kiss of the Spider Woman), and deeply personal storytelling all fight for your ticket. Whether you want LED battles or hushed confessions, there’s a pour for that night. Mix bold, watch sharply, and let the weekend surprise you.
Catch you next Thursday for more pours, picks, and cinematic insight. 🎬🍸
