What Happened Last Weekend?

Movie‑goers kicked off September with a surge of genre variety and a record-setting opening for a horror franchise: The Conjuring: Last Rites pulled in big Halloween‑adjacent horror energy; Hamilton: An American Musical (Re‑Release) gave audiences nostalgic joy; smaller entries like Highest 2 Lowest and The Threesome offered drama with bite. Box office is still favoring established brands and horror, while audience appetite for “something new and sharp” seems to be growing. All in all: strong turnout, especially for previews and evening showings.

What’s New in Theaters (Sept 12–14)

  • The Long Walk — A dystopian thriller based on Stephen King’s early novel. 100+ teens must keep walking at a certain speed or face deadly consequences. Star power includes Cooper Hoffman and Mark Hamill. We’ve been waiting for this one ever since our parents handed us a copy of The Bachman Books (Stephen KIng’s pseudonym)

  • Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale — The Crawley saga returns for its third cinematic film. Period drama lovers, suit up.

  • Spinal Tap II: The End Continues — The mockumentary legendary band returns. Original cast, original absurdity, cameos from music icons. Loud guitars and louder laughs ahead.

  • Toy Story – 30th Anniversary Re‑Release — Pixar’s original classic goes back into theaters, this time in 3D. For families, nostalgia‑seekers, and folks who want popcorn with a side of warm feels.

New on Streaming / Movie‑Related Releases

Since our last POURcast, these are the movie or franchise‑movie‑adjacent titles worth noting:
