The 2024 box office continued a steady rise theater viewing post pandemic

After the 2024 box office continued a years long recovery since the pandemic, 2025 looks like it may continue that upward trend, as some big movies are scheduled to hit the theaters and bring audiences out of their lonely small screen seclusion.

First things first: the 2023 writers and actors strikes really hamstrung the flow of movies (and TV), with studios pushing back starting and releasing projects. Now, we are going to see the silver linings of that delays in 2025. Marvel begins its new phase with Captain America and The Thunderbolts filling the void left behind after the 10+ year fun of Avengers related films.

JANUARY:

Wolfman – don’t sleep on this horror film. Horror has a sneaky way of surprising the industry. And horror films are becoming a real fan favorite in these offices.

February:

Captain America: Brave New World – there is some hesitancy on this MCU movie – will audiences come, knowing that the old Cap is gone? Or will they embrace the new world order of the MCU?

March:

Disney’s Snow White – a lot riding on this live action update of the classic Disney heroine. But, it should help Disney secure a huge box office lead early in 2025.

April:

A Minecraft Movie – Kids see movies + parents taking them = LOTS of box office numbers. And laugh if you want, but remember Angry Birds?

Passion of the Christ: Resurrection – one of the most profitable movies ever made. Look for this to do well in this new climate.

Mickey 17 – Robert Pattinson stars in this Bong Jun-Hoo (Snowpiercer) sci-fi movie that is getting a lot buzz.

May:

Thunderbolts – while the groundwork has been laid for this new team of MCU heroes, will audiences accept it in place of a continuation of the Avengers franchise?

Mission Impossible: the Final Reckoning – the last one. Tom Cruise has promised us.

28 Years Later – expectations are high for this installment of the 28 days/weeks later franchise.

F1 – the sport is hot, and so is the cast. Look for big numbers. Enough maybe to buy a F1 franchise.

And don’t sleep on Summer movies or the second half of the year, with SUPERMAN leading the charge in July. Until then, enjoy your cocktails and be on the lookout for cocktails and movies events with us!
